BOAT PARADE SAFETY MEASURES

ST. MARGARET’S BLESSING OF THE FLEET

THE FOLLOWING SAFETY MEASURES ARE TO BE ENFORCED

 

 

1. THE DOCKING AREA IS NOT BULKHEADED. PLEASE CONTROL THE SPEED OF THE BOAT ENGINES SO AS NOT TO UNDERMINE THE SHORELINE BY THE WASH OF THE WHEELS. BOATS ARE TO MOOR AT THE SHORELINE OF ST. MARGARET SCHOOL PROPERTY.

  2. All persons aboard boats in the parade are to have life jackets. Each person is to provide his own life jacket.

  3. Captains are to determine that their boats are carrying limited number of passengers. Good safety precautions are to be observed in determining the number of passengers aboard each boat.

  4. All boats wishing to be judged for prizes MUST register in advance of parade on Sunday, May 7 on St. Margaret’s grounds.

  5. Parade will be conducted in an orderly, single-file fashion. Lead-off will begin from the West end of the docking area and each boat will follow in order. A signal will be given each captain when it becomes his turn to enter the parade.

  6. Boats will maintain their position within parade during the entire parade. No passing will be allowed.

  7. A minimum distance of 100 feet will be maintained between boats in the parade.

  8. During parade time, all vessels not in parade should be moored and kept well away from parade route.

  9. On Fleet Blessing day, and particularly during the time of the boat parade, the entire bayou will be patrolled by marine safety officials and all good marine safety practices will be strictly enforced.

  10. Vessels do not have to be decorated to participate in the parade.
